If this is your first AR build with an 80% lower, the challenge ahead of you might seem a little daunting. However, we’ll pretty much guarantee that after you complete the 80 lower you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about.
Completing an 80 percent lower with modern 80 lower jigs has pretty much made the process idiot proof. Yes, there’s always Carl, and Carl can screw up just about anything. However, even Carl would struggle to find a way. That being said, there are a handful of newbie errors one can make that can put a damper on the process.
So let’s tackle those very briefly so we can get you a completed AR and out on the range for some pew time before you know it.
Put Safety First with Your First 80 Percent Lower
We like to brag about how quick one can complete an 80 percent lower with one of our jigs like the Easy Jig Gen 2 Multi Platform with Tooling. You really can knock it out in less than 30 minutes if you want. However, if this is your first build then please take your time and prioritize safety. Whether it is a drill or a router, each feels less than pleasant when they make contact with your skin while in operation.
In addition, we make all of our 80 percent lowers with some high grade aluminum. So whether that is bits of 6061 or 7075 aluminum flying into your eyes, it’s going to leave a mark. So be sure and grab some eye protection. With safety being paramount, you should be able to proceed forward with little distraction.
Read the 80 Lower Jig Instructions
The next thing you can do is to read the instructions. Yes, we know that no one likes to take the time to read when you are giddy about your first build. However, if you somehow manage to mess this up then you’ll be left to throw your 80 lower at the bad guys rather than gift a little proper violence to them. So whether you buy a jig separately from someone else or pick up our 80 lower packages with jigs, please read.
In addition to reading, there are a plethora of videos available on YouTube that can walk you through this process. So if you are a visual learner, then this might be a great option for you. Just be sure you find a reputable brand to learn from. With the instructions and a video mentor, you really can’t go too far down the wrong path here.
